Adding Turbo Lanes to T-Intersections Study

The objective of this study was to evaluate a list of T-intersections and to prepare schematic concept diagrams for 25 intersections that could potentially be converted from conventional signalized T-intersections to turbo lane configurations.  The study evaluated the benefits, preliminary cost estimates, and priorities for implementation.

For the selected locations, existing traffic, transit, safety, bicycle, pedestrian, and geometric data was secured by DPA.  Intersection analysis included:  potential conflict points or other problems within the influence of the intersection that caused congestion; field inspections to visualize or confirm existing problems; improvements for implementing turbo lanes in the selected locations; estimated cost of the recommendations by intersection; and cost / benefit analysis to determine and quantify the positive impacts of the improvements.
