Coral Gables Trolley
October 31, 2011 · Transit / Pedestrian / Bicycle PlanningDPA completed the feasibility study of a transit circulator for the city of Coral Gables. This circulator route, which now runs along Ponce de Leon Boulevard, provides connectivity to the CBD / Miracle Mile area, SW 8 Street, and the Metrorail. This system was predicated on the need for an alternate mode of transportation to help relieve local traffic congestion and parking deficiencies in the downtown area, as well as promote Metrorail ridership to the city of Coral Gables.
The Coral Gables Trolley provides the opportunity for this area to improve travel choices, which ensures better mobility. Its direct benefits included: reduction in auto trips per day; reduction in parking spaces needed in the downtown area; promotion of an alternate mode of transportation; enhancement of the pedestrian environment; promotion of low emission, low noise technology; interconnection with Metrorail thus promoting transit ridership; improvement in transportation mobility; and enhancement of Coral Gables economic growth and competitiveness.
