The Hanson Street – Edison Avenue Extension Study, conducted by DPA for the city of Fort Myers, evaluated alternative corridors and alignments for the extension of Hanson Street from Fowler Street to SR 82 and Edison Avenue from Jacksonville Street to Ortiz Avenue.  The study included: travel modeling to verify the need for the improvements, the timing, number of mainline lanes, and intersection turn lane needs; the preparation of alternative cross sections; the evaluation of the business and economic, residential, cultural, historic, social, environmental, and transportation impacts of the alternatives; selection of a preferred alternative; and an extensive public involvement program, including a public neighborhood workshop. Also included in the Hanson Street Extension Study was the evaluation of the crossing of I-75, the major transportation corridor in the area.
