I-95 Distributor Ramps PD&E Study
October 10, 2011 · Transportation PlanningThe existing configuration of the I-95 Distributor Ramps created a physical barrier that, for years, had hindered the potential for economic growth in downtown Miami. The FDOT retained the services of DPA to conduct a Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study to investigate the feasibility of reducing or eliminating the I-95 Distributor Ramps and providing a “Boulevard” concept similar to Biscayne Boulevard in lieu of the elevated ramps. This new boulevard would provide a ceremonial entryway into downtown Miami.
Although operational deficiencies were considered as part of the Project, they did not constitute the primary objective of the study. The objective of the study extended beyond defining and mitigating undesirable traffic operations in downtown Miami. Rather, socioeconomic factors and new urbanism ideas were addressed and carefully considered as part of the study.
