The NE 15 Avenue improvement project, from NE 159 Street to NE 186 Street in North Miami, was undertaken by DPA for Miami-Dade County Public Works.  The project included the construction of bike lanes, signal, lighting, pedestrian ramp, and sidewalk improvements.  DPA prepared the design of the signal, signing and pavement markings, and bike lanes, along with the construction administration for this project.

One of the unique features of the design of the bike lanes was that at the congested intersection of NE 15 Avenue and NE 163 Street, DPA designed Dade County’s first bike signal detection loop. This magnetic detection loop on the NE 15 Avenue approach to NE 163 Street has traffic signal detection similar to a motor vehicle detection for safe crossing of bicycle traffic.
