Ponce de Leon Boulevard Roundabout

October 28, 2011 · Final Design

The Ponce de Leon Boulevard Roundabout, located in Coral Gables, was a state-of-the-art solution for improving level-of-service at an existing, five-legged signalized intersection. This roundabout was designed by DPA as part of the Village of Merrick Park, which is a nationally recognized retail, office, and residential development.

When the Village of Merrick Park added a sixth leg to the intersection, unique solutions for reducing congestion and delay were needed. The Rouse Company looked to DPA to design a modern, oval-shaped roundabout. This roundabout not only reduced congestion and delay and enhanced pedestrian safety but provided the opportunity to develop an aesthetically pleasing landmark. The Ponce de Leon Boulevard Roundabout has received local and national recognition, including the cover photo on the Federal Highway Administration’s Public Roads Magazine (March/April 2005).
